Tributes pour in for the late Tim Sassone

Longtime Daily Herald Blackhawks beat writer Tim Sassone honored by teams, colleagues.

The hockey world lost one of its most dogged and honest reporters when the Daily Herald’s Tim Sassone died on March 25.

Here’s a collection of remebrances of Sassone, who joined the PHWA in 1988:

Daily Herald obituary: “The hockey world mourns a legend who knew, explained and critiqued the sport better than anyone,” said John Lampinen, Daily Herald senior vice president/editor.

Chicago Sun-Times: Said Hawks coach Joel Quenneville: “The hockey media world lost a good man.”

Chicago Tribune: “He loved hockey. He loved the Blackhawks, but he knew how to do his job as a beat writer in a competitive environment.”

The Sherman Report: “In an era where it seems to be all about calling attention to yourself, Sassone quietly, but earnestly went about the business of covering hockey.”
